Biography

Malou Meyenhofer is a choreographer, performer, dancer.

Malou Meyenhofer graduated from Zurich Dance Theater School with a diploma in  Dance and postgraduate degree in Choreography (2004). Her education included contemporary, modern, jazz and ballet. Some of her main teachers in the field of choreography were Ismael Ivo, Frank Rutishauser, Daniell’ Ficola and Kjersti Müller-Sandstoe. The first engagements as a dancer followed and Meyenhofer became the choreography assistant of Kyle Bukhari (USA). Her first dance play «The night before the morning after» was invited to Solo Tanz Festival Stuttgart, a renowned solo choreography competition in Germany. More plays followed.

From 2006 onwards Malou Meyenhofer spent a lot of time in the United States, continuing her dance studies. Apart from contemporary and jazz classes, she started to study Argentine Tango. She deepened her knowledge in Vernacular Jazz forms and choreography with Chester A. Whitmore (USA).

 

In 2008 Malou Meyenhofer moved to Bombay/Mumbai, where she worked for the next 7 years. Apart from touring the major cities as a performer, she also choreographed for the major Art Festivals of the country, as well as worked with many of the most famous actors and choreographers of the film industry. A close collaboration with Whistling Woods International WWIL, Asia’s biggest film school, had her create a curriculum for their dance department.

Malou Meyenhofer enrolled in Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan College and studied Kathak (one of the Classical Indian dance forms) with Padmashree Sunayana Hazarilal from the Natawari Academy; as well as Lavni with Namrata Dilip Sawant of Nrutyadish Kala Kendra.  In between, Malou Meyenhofer always worked outside of India. She toured most of Europe and parts of the US and Canada as dance teacher and performer.

 

Work engagements as a contemporary dancer include the Mem Morrisson Company (UK), Random Screams / Davis Freeman (B) and choreographers Philipp Egli (CH) and Kinsun Chan (CAN) at the Zurich Opera. She works for the Swiss production company Sonimage since 2014.

 

In 2016 she founded her own dance company in Switzerland. „Complicated!“, her first production in collaboration with acclaimed writer-director Igor Bauersima, boldly integrates dance and spoken word into a new theatrical form without precedents.
